Exploding box

by Jenny Cottam
(Doncaster, South Yorkshire)

This is my first attempt at making the exploding box and I followed instructions to the letter. I thoroughly enjoyed making it and am quite pleased with the result.

Here are the instructions -
Cut out three pieces of white card.
One 21 x 21cm,
One 18 x 18 cm and
One 15 x 15 cm.
Take the 21 cm square and score each side at 7cm.
The 18 cm square at 6cm each side and
The 15cm square at 5cm each side.
Cut the 4 corner squares from each piece.
The pieces then sit inside each other.
Decorate them as you like then use 3D foam pads to attach to each other.
To make the lid you need 11 x 11 cm square white card.
Score 2cm each side.
Create tabs with the corner squares and fold in and stick to create your lid.
I then embellished it with various items made using the Christina collection.
Hope you like it

Lovely card
by: Ethel

Your version of the exploding box is fantastic!! I love the colors you used. I have made a single one, but it didn't look as good as yours.
Would it be possible to use the measurements in inches?? I do not understand the metric system. I would love to try the layered look. Again, this was a fabulous version.

I love love this. I made a couple a number of years back but they were not anywhere as lovely as this one. You instructions are great and thank you for the conversion chart. You have inspired me to try again.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful card.

Exploding box

Thank you SO much for the conversion chart. I haven't been back in awhile due to being in the hospital and recuperating...then a new computer from my son and getting used to it.
I plan to try this several layer box very soon. Will send a pic of it when done. Am taking physical therapy now, so it may be a while. I need to submit some more cards to you as it's been a long time. I love your site and will try to get back more often. Hugs, Ethel
PS. I am over 5 times 16 now, so think I qualify.. LOL

converted sizes
by: Anonymous

Hi Ethel
I've converted the cms to inches - hope this helps

21cms = 8 3/8ins
18cms = 7 3/16ins
15cms = 6ins
7cms = 2 7/8ins
6cms = 2 7/16ins
5cms = 2 1/16ins
11cms = 4 7/16ins (lid)

I have not tried it in inches so hope this works out for you, Ethel. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't. Let me know how you get on

Hi Ethel
Thank you for your lovely comments. I will try and convert the sizes to inches for you. It may not be exactly the same size but I don't think that will matter. I will let you know as soon as I can
